We are now providing facilities for commercial advertisements while still accommodating FREE advertising for personal items.  Many of the categories permit FREE posting of ads for non-commercial items.  However, several sections require a fee for any ad that is posted.

You may post a commercial ad in the FREE sections, but under the honor system, you must select "Business Ads" under the "Extra Visibility Options."  The table identified as Cost to Post Ads outlines the guidelines and costs for posting basic ads in each of the sections.  Please be sure to read the Rules & Regs at the bottom of the page.  It is especially important that you read and understand our definition of a "commercial item!"

When posting an ad, you may also select from among several options as identified in the table below called Global Charges.  The "Extra Visibility Options" provide the ability to make your ads stand out from the rest by displaying them in BOLD or BOLD and RED.  When posting a commercial ad in a FREE section, you must select the "Business Ads" option to prevent having your ad removed.

The "Placement Options" allow your ad to appear at the top of the list when users browse or search for ads regardless of how many other ads without this option have been posted below it.  Platinum ads appear above Gold ads which appear above Silver ads which appear over ads with No Visibility Option.  Note: Purchasing a placement option does not guarantee that your ad will appear at the very top of the page.  There may be other ads which have also purchased the option that will appear above yours.  Depending upon how many ads with placement options have been purchased in the section where you are posting, your ad may not even appear on the first page.  We can only guarantee that you will appear above all other ads which have a lower placement option, i.e. Platinum always appears above Gold which always appears above Silver which always appears above ads with no placement options.

Rules and Regs

• Free ads are for non-commercial use only.  If you are posting a commercial ad in a FREE section, you must choose "Business Ad" under the "Extra Visibility Options" or your ad will be deleted.  Our definition of commercial is: Any service or item that  you provide on an ongoing basis for profit is considered commercial, regardless of your legal structure.  Some examples of what would be considered commercial items are:

  • Any ad placed from a business entity, e.g. Sole Proprietor, Partnership, Corporation, LLC, LLP, etc.

  • Pet Service providers (walkers, groomers, sitters, breeders, etc)

  • Lawn care, equipment repair, tutoring and training, house cleaners, any kind of side-work, etc.

  • Food wholesalers/retailers, such as crabs, fruits and vegetables, etc.

  • Vehicles or parts for sale by anyone selling more than three (3) used vehicles per calendar year.

• RESUMES.

  • RESUMES - open to any individual seeking full-time work as a W-2 employee of a local business.  Individuals seeking side-work or work for their business are required to place their ad in the Services Directory or select the "Business Ad" visibility option when posting in an otherwise Free section.

  • STUDENTS SEEKING WORK - open to full-time High school and college students looking for part-time or summer employment.  This includes students who are running their own business for the summer such as landscaping, painting, etc.  Part-time students do not qualify for this service.

• ADS MUST BE PLACED IN THE APPROPRIATE SECTION.  Ads posted in inappropriate categories will result in that ad being deleted.  An example would be placing a dog sitting service in the Employment or General Merchandise sections.  You also may not post an ad in a free section in order to avoid a fee were the ad placed in the appropriate section, i.e. placing a seeking real estate or rental ad in the Items Wanted section.  If you continually place your ads in inappropriate categories, your account will be suspended.

• NO DUPLICATE ADS IN THE SAME SECTION.  When placing Free ads, please do not place the same ad in more than one category within the same section.  A section is the highest level, e.g. General Merchandise, Vehicles, etc.  A category is a division within a section, e.g. Cars, Trucks, SUVs are categories within the Vehicles section.  So, for example, you may not place an ad for your SUV in both the Vehicles->SUV and Vehicles->Trucks categories. Duplicate ads within a section will be deleted.  This does not apply to PAID ads.

• NO EDITORIALIZING.  Editorializing in the classifieds is strictly prohibited.  Editorializing encompasses making a post in order to comment on or criticize another advertisement.  All editorials must be posted in the Community Forums.  Editorializing is grounds for having your account suspended.

• PRICES.  We reserve the right to change the prices for posting ads or their respective options at any time.

• ALL SALES ARE FINAL.  There are no refunds on paid ads.  Once you submit your ad, it will be placed and your credit card will be charged.  Please check your ad carefully before you submit it.  You will have the ability to delete your ad or modify the content after it has been posted.

• NOTHING ILLEGAL OR INAPPROPRIATE.  We do not accepts ads for pornography or anything that is illegal regardless of paid status.

• ACCOUNT SUSPENSIONS.  If we are forced to ban you because of repeat problems, please note that the ban applies to your person, not just your current account.  Registering for a new account with a different e-mail address is not a permissible way to circumvent the ban.

• SHRINK WRAP LICENSE AGREEMENT.  By using the somd.com classifieds, you agree to all of the terms and conditions identified on this page as well as in the Access Agreement.
